A strong, focused and skilled individual is required to help SARS develop and provide strategic direction by scanning the organization and the environment. The role requires strong technical knowledge and capability and the candidate must be able to analyse data and prepare reports and presentations as necessary. A candidate should be able to work well as part of a team or on an individual basis, but must also be able to multitask. The ability to develop strategies around specific tax products would be advantageous if you had a deep understanding of tax laws

Data Analytics Specialist Vacancy at SARS

The candidate will analyze big datasets for taxpayer / 3rd party suspicious behaviour and/or submissions (registrations / submissions / information updating) and identify new / changing risk trends in order to facilitate strategic risk mitigation design, implementation, monitoring, and support, as well as decision making, or reporting in support of SARS’s strategic objectives.

Job Purpose

It is important to ensure effective management of the information life cycle or value chain, which includes identifying, analyzing, and developing information assets and assessing business information needs.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Computer Sciences (NQF 7) AND 6 years’ experience developing Power BI reports in a similar environment.

  • It will be an advantage if you are Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate.

      As an alternative

  • With a Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 10 years’ experience in data & business analytics, including 3 years of experience developing Power BI reports.

  • Certification as a Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate will be an asset.

Minimum Functional Requirements

  • Expertise in Data Engineering / Business Analytics / Data Science

  • The ability to apply intermediate (practical application) technical expertise to data processes, data cleaning, analysis, reporting, and database design and testing

  • -Experience with reporting packages (SQL, R, Python, etc. ), databases (SQL, R, etc.).

  • Statistical packages (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R, etc.) and intermediate (practical application) knowledge of statistics.

  • Knowledge of data warehouses at an intermediate level (practical application)

  • Know how to apply:

  • Data migration basics
  • Visualization of data at the basic level
  • An overview of business intelligence methodologies
  • Expertise in database systems
  • Programming Skills – i.e. SQL, Python, R, etc., with practical application.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
