Accounting Clerk Positions at the South African Department of Defence

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4) certificate or equivalent with Finance/Accounting subjects.
  • Post Matric qualification in Finance/Accounting is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Valid RSA or Military driver’s license.
  • Basic communication, analytical, innovative, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, specifically MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Departmental Financial Management system (FMS), report writing system (IC), Departmental Accounting, Standard Chart of Accounts, Conventional Service Writing, and staff work.
  • Knowledge of Costing and Occupational Health and Safety (NOSA) and Supply Chain Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide budget management services for the medium-term expenditure framework (MTEF).
  • Assist and participate in the development of the Annual Performance Plan financial management guidelines.
  • Control expenditure and revenue budgets within your area of responsibility.
  • Perform administrative Financial Management System Budget Control functions.
  • Offer policy advice on budget control.
  • Administer FMS Budget Control functions.
  • Monitor budget control aspects within your area of responsibility.
  • Generate and distribute financial reports as required.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks.
  • Maintain financial management documentation for audit.
  • Record minutes and maintain records of meetings and discussions.
  • Distribute office documentation.
  • Administer allocated resources.
  • Contribute to the support of budget management capabilities.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety standards within allocated facilities.
