Environmental Officer Position at the Department of Water and Sanitation
Requirements:
National Diploma in Environmental Management or Natural Science or relevant. Experience in managing or regulating water services will be an added advantage. A valid and unexpired driver’s license. Computer skills (MS Office).
An understanding of water resources, and water services-related legislation such as the National Water Act 1998, Water Services Act 1997, etc. An understanding of the National Blue and Green Drop Programs. Work long hours and be willing to travel.
Duties:
Conduct detailed inspections of water and wastewater treatment plants and compile detailed inspection reports. Investigate failures in the quality of drinking water. Conduct routine monitoring of drinking water and wastewater effluent quality and issue non-compliance letters. Investigate and compile detailed reports for sewer spills and pollution incidents.
Incorporate National Blue and Green Drop programs into water services institutions to support their implementation. Assess and comment on Environmental Impact Assessments, Basic Assessment Reports, and Environmental Management Plans for the National Blue and Green Drop Programs.

Department of Water and Sanitations website, under career opportunities or on the DPSA website, under vacancies in the Public Service (point 4) and include a comprehensive CV (including detailed information about the applicant’s training, qualifications, competencies, knowledge, and experience).
You must provide all the required information on the Z83 application form. In line with DPSA circular 19 of 2022, other related documents such as copies of qualifications, identity documents, drivers licenses, etc, should not accompany the application when applying for a position because such documentation must only be presented during the interview.
When applying for a professional or occupational registration, the Z83 Part B must be filled out as these fields are regarded as compulsory, and such details must also be included in the CV of the applicant. Drivers licenses must be annotated on the CV for posts that require them. Failure to provide all required information will automatically disqualify the applicant.
No late applications will be accepted. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from SAQA (only if shortlisted).
Applications that do not comply with these requirements will not be considered. In addition to a technical and competency assessment, all shortlisted candidates for Senior Management Services (SMS) posts will be required to obtain a pre-entry certificate from the National School of Government.
