The KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute serves as the provincial heritage resources authority for KwaZulu-Natal.
With headquarters in Pietermaritzburg and additional offices in Ulundi, this institute oversees significant heritage projects, including the Isandlwana & Rorke’s Drift Battlefields, the Border Cave archaeological site, and the KwaZulu Cultural Museum.
All compliance processes for development, structural/visual changes to protected buildings, and archaeological and battlefield sites in KZN are administered from the Pietermaritzburg office.

- Heritage Administration (x5 Positions)
- Head of Administration and Secretariat Office (1)

Requirements: A 3-year Degree/Diploma in Financial Management, Auditing, Accounting, Office Management, Human Resources, or Administration.
Purpose: To provide administrative support in key areas within the Head Office.
- Heritage Practitioner Development Programme (x2 Positions) Requirements: A 3-year degree/diploma in heritage, history, archaeology, geology, architecture, anthropology, political science, sociology, or related fields.Purpose: Provision of heritage services to the organization.

Requirements: Diploma in tourism, hospitality management, nature conservation, or Matric with history and tourism as passed subjects.
Purpose: To provide tour guiding and other tourism-related functions at heritage sites.
- Heritage Maintenance Cadets (x14 Positions) Requirements: MatricPurpose: To provide various maintenance services to heritage sites.
- Heritage Research (x2 Positions) Requirements: 3-year degree in humanities (sociology, political science, history, African languages, anthropology).Purpose: To provide applied and scientific research related to the core functions of Amafa.
Note: These positions are stationed at various heritage sites and interpretive centres. Applicants must reside within the vicinity of these sites.
