Sasol Mining Is Hiring X20 Miners

Throughout our Southern African integrated value chain, Sasol Mining operates six coal mines.   Most of the coal supplied to Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) is used as a gasification feedstock and some is used to generate electricity.  Steam and electricity are generated by the coal supplied to Sasolburg Operations (SO).


By planning, organizing, and controlling the day-to-day operations of a section, the Miner is responsible for achieving performance targets.


  • Make sure targets are met
  • Reduce costs and improve performance
  • Ensure that SOP’s and COP’s are adhered to by the team
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment
  • Enhance the capabilities of personnel in the section
  • Eliminate risks by conducting section inspections
  • Comply with legal requirements and those of Sasol Mining
  • Best practices should be identified and implemented
  • Develop subordinates by coaching them
  • Provide efficient and accurate administrative support


Qualifications and expertise required:

  • A grade 11 (or equivalent) in both Math and English/Business English
  • Obtain a valid miner’s trade test certificate or blasting certification
  • Certificate of blasting
  • Protection against flames
  • Gases 8
  • Medically fit
  • Possessing a driver’s license
  • Certificate of Competence A
  • Experience in underground coal mining (Fiery Mines) for two to five years.
