University of the Western Cape Seeks Postdoctoral Innovation Fellows for 2024 Program
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) welcomes applications for the 2024 Postdoctoral Innovation Fellowship.
Applications close on January 31, 2023. UWC, driven by research, generates significant Intellectual Property (IP) and Research Outputs, aiming to foster innovations benefiting South Africa and the global community.
About UWC TTO
The UWC Technology Transfer Office (TTO) endeavors to expedite the development of UWC Research-driven IP, facilitating its commercialization for societal and economic progress.
It supports UWC researchers and innovators in advancing their innovations toward readiness for commercialization or transfer to innovation stakeholders.
Among its supportive mechanisms, the TTO manages the UWC Innovation Seed Fund Programmes, nurturing UWC’s innovation potential by allowing researchers to further develop UWC IP.
Fellowship Call
The TTO seeks applicants for a one-year Postdoctoral Innovation Fellowship interested in honing skills in Innovation Management and Technology Development while assessing the impact of UWC Seed Fund Projects.

University of the Western Cape Seeks Postdoctoral Innovation Fellows for 2024 Program
The project aims to evaluate the UWC Seed Funding’s implementation and its influence on Innovation and Technology Development. Key activities include:
- Training in Innovation Management and Technology Transfer
- Assessing socio-economic potential of Seed Fund Innovations
- Devising commercialization strategies for Seed Fund Innovations
- Assisting Seed Fund Awardees in project deliverables’ implementation
- Backing Seed Fund Awardees in technology development activities
- Identifying and managing Industry partners or Research collaborators
- Collaborating on the management of the UWC Seed Fund Portfolio
- Evaluating the overall implementation and impact of UWC Seed Funding
Eligibility Criteria
- Completed PhD degree in a relevant foundational discipline within the past five years or submission assurance by the end of 2023
- Comprehensive CV with contact details for three referees
- Motivation letter highlighting interest and experience in project management, innovation/technology management, transfer, or development
- For non-SA applicants: Valid passport with permit
