About the Border Management Authority (BMA)
The BMA, established as a Schedule 3A Public Entity on April 1, 2023, is entrusted with frontline border law enforcement responsibilities.
These include port health, immigration control, access control, biosecurity, food safety, phyto-sanitary control, land border infrastructure, and border information and risk management.
The BMA’s mission is to effectively address challenges, threats, and opportunities in the border environment while safeguarding South Africa’s borders and fulfilling national, regional, and global developmental responsibilities, along with upholding human rights imperatives.

Vacancy of Immigration Specialist at the Border Management Authority
Duties and Responsibilities
The Immigration Specialist will be responsible for various tasks, including:
- Controlling the admission and departure of individuals at the Port of Entry.
- Clearing travelers and signing in crew members.
- Processing asylum seekers in line with the Refugees Act.
- Clearing conveyors upon arrival and before departure.
- Processing inadmissible, undesirable, and prohibited persons.
- Handling the processing of stowaways.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate recognized by SAQA.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in customer care service, law enforcement, or security.
- Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification recognized by SAQA (advantageous).
- Completion of the Cadet or Internship Programme with the Department of Home Affairs (added advantage).
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including the South African constitution, Immigration Act, Refugees Act, etc.
- Computer literacy.
- Customer-oriented with a focus on service delivery improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patriotism, honesty, integrity, and security orientation.
- Team player with decisive abilities.
- Willingness to work shift hours and relocate if required.
