AfCFTA is a groundbreaking initiative that unites 55 African Union (AU) member countries and eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to establish the world’s largest free trade area.

With a population of approximately 1.3 billion people and a combined GDP of around US$ 3.4 trillion, the primary goal is to facilitate the seamless flow of goods and services across the continent, enhancing Africa’s global trade presence.

AfCFTA is a flagship project of Agenda 2063, the AU’s strategic vision for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse.

African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) 2024 Graduate Internship Programme

To fulfill its role in advancing the continent’s development agenda, AfCFTA is offering internships to African students who possess the requisite knowledge and skills. The internship program is designed to introduce highly qualified and motivated students to the work of AfCFTA, engaging them in projects related to the Secretariat’s Strategic Orientations and supporting corporate functions. The program’s primary objective is to enhance candidates’ analytical and technical skills in an international setting and foster personal and early professional growth.

Objectives

  1. Provide students with exposure to AfCFTA’s work.
  2. Offer a valuable learning platform for eligible students.
  3. Enable students to experience the inner workings of an ambitious African Union project.
  4. Promote AfCFTA among the youth and encourage them to aspire to work with international organizations.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the AfCFTA Internship Programme, applicants should:

  1. Be nationals of an African Union Member State and reside in Ghana.
  2. Be final-year students enrolled full-time in an accredited degree program in relevant study fields at a recognized public or private institution of higher learning.
  3. Commit to a minimum three-month availability during the program.
  4. Possess proficiency in one of the AU’s official working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Kiswahili, or Spanish), with fluency in additional AU languages being advantageous.
  5. Demonstrate high-level quantitative and IT skills (tests will be administered).
  6. Have a strong grasp of ICT and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
  7. Be willing and capable of working in a multicultural and international team environment.
  8. Commit to upholding and adhering to the rules and values of the institution throughout the program.
  9. Encouragement for female candidates to apply.
