Air Traffic Control Officer Opportunities at Air Traffic and Navigation Services
The primary responsibility of the successful candidates will be to provide Air Traffic Control Services as Aerodrome Controllers at Grand Central.
This entails preventing collisions between aircraft, maintaining an orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic, offering advice to aircraft for safe flight, providing alerting services during distress, and assisting in Search and Rescue operations.
The goal is to ensure the delivery of services in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to Company policy, ICAO Standards, and Recommended Practices.
Job Description
Major Activities
- Air Traffic Control Operations:
- Control airspace traffic in accordance with prescribed standards, procedures, and practices.
- Ensure the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.
- Equipment Management:
- Set up and check surveillance, navigation, and communication equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Maintain optimum performance and serviceability.
- Flight Progress Display:
- Maintain a flight progress display for coordinated air movements.
- Emergency Assistance:
- Provide continuous assistance to aircraft in emergency or distress situations.
- Report occurrences and support operators encountering emergencies.
- Information Provision:
- Supply aircraft with meteorological and relevant information for safe flight.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Monitor communication channels continuously.
- Relay equipment and navigational aid serviceability reports.
- Procedural Compliance:
- Adhere to procedures outlined in Station Standing Instructions.
- Safety Management:
- Assist in implementing the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Conduct safety assessments and monitor safety and service level indicators.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Valid Aerodrome Rating (South African or International).
- Valid class 3 ATC medical.
- Valid English language proficiency – Level 4 and above.
- Previous Aerodrome validation within ATNS is advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a validated Aerodrome Controller.
