Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Bursary Programme 2024
The DMRE is offering full-time bursaries for the academic year 2024, targeting eligible South African scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds currently in or having completed grade 12.
The focus is on mining or energy-related fields, including but not limited to:
- Bachelor of Science (Physics and Chemistry)
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Electro-Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering
- Environmental Health and Management
- Geology
- Industrial Engineering
- Materials Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive)
- Mining Engineering
- Mining Survey
- Nuclear Engineering
- Rock Engineering
Bursary Criteria
Bursaries are available to financially needy and deserving South African citizens from rural areas, aiming to enhance transformation in the mining and energy sectors.
The bursary is exclusively for those pursuing studies at a South African University or University of Technology. It is not available for post-graduate qualifications, and first preference is given to first-year students.
Only full-time studies are eligible, and successful applicants must confirm their unemployment status at the time of signing the bursary agreement.
The awarding of the bursary is at the discretion of the DMRE, and communication will occur only with pre-selected candidates.

Instructions
- Complete the form in BLOCK LETTERS.
- Initial and fill each of the seven pages.
- Download the 2024 Bursary application forms from www.dmre.gov.za.
- Attach certified copies of documents as per the checklist.
- Attach a motivation for the bursary and any supporting documents as per section E.
- Applicants with less than level 6 in pure Mathematics and Science will not be considered.

Important Dates and Considerations
- Closing date for applications: 30 November 2023.
- Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted after 31 January 2024.
- High school applicants are encouraged to submit final matric results and acceptance letters within the first week of the release of matric results.
- First preference will be given to females and applicants with disabilities.
