Job Opportunity of Air Traffic Service Officer Trainee

As an Air Traffic Service Officer Trainee, your responsibilities include:

1. Route Clearances and SID Allocation

  • Issue clearances based on filed flight plans to determine SID allocations.
  • Obtain aircraft parking bay, registration, and requested flight level.
  • Provide relevant after-departure clearances and departure slot times, including aircraft call sign, destination, requested flight level, transponder code, and slot time.

 Communication and Coordination

  • Act as a switchboard, including screening private calls to ATC’s on position and handling requests for information from the public, pilots, and airlines.
  • Monitor Search and Rescue (SAR) requirements and process SAR cancellations.
  • Complete necessary forms in the event of SAR, accidents, or incidents.
  • Ensure correctness of all flight plans and allocate reference numbers.
  • Manipulate and monitor AMATIS and TopSky.
  • Liaise with AIMU regarding flight plan requests.
  • Assist ATC with operational duties and provide relevant information.
  • Create, extend, and cancel Notams.
  • Handle billing for daily statistics.
  • Liaise with Technical Services to address faulty equipment and update the unserviceability log.
  • Send departure and other messages via Anais.
  • Provide traffic information to all aircraft operating in the flight information region.
  • Verify aircraft type, speed, and wake turbulence category.
  • Provide weather information upon request (reported and forecasted).
  • Offer information about destination and alternate aerodromes, including hours of duty of manned stations, changes in weather conditions, and facility updates.
  • Take alerting action as needed.
  • Provide clearances to aircraft entering controlled airspace.
  • Offer assistance in emergencies or cases of lost aircraft.
  • Monitor radar for flights in FACA FIR.
  • Relay real-time estimates to/from neighboring FIR’s and ATSU’s.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 with Math and English.
  • Completion of ATS Core Content and ATS Rating course to qualify as an ATSO.
  • Valid Class 3 medical certificate.
  • Exposure to the ATS environment is advantageous.
