About South African Weather Service (SAWS)
Learn about SAWS, a public entity operating under the Ministry of Water and Environmental Affairs. Governed by a Board of Directors, SAWS transitioned into a public entity on July 15, 2001, in accordance with the South African Weather Service Act (No. 8 of 2001).
SAWS serves as the authoritative source for weather and climate forecasting in South Africa, upholding international meteorological standards as a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
As an Aviation Meteorological Authority, SAWS is entrusted by the state to provide weather services to the aviation industry, marine sector, and various other designated clients. It also fulfills multiple international obligations of the government.
