The Government of Mauritius is offering scholarships to eligible South Africans for full-time, on-campus undergraduate and postgraduate programs tenable in public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius for the 2024 academic year, commencing in September 2024.

The DHET serves as the Nominating Agency for South African applicants, providing crucial information for those seeking to apply for the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme.
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE
The Mauritius Government offers comprehensive support, covering:
- Tuition fees and course-related costs (up to MUR 100,000)
- Monthly living allowance (MUR 14,200, approximately R5,300)
- Free basic healthcare in public hospitals in Mauritius
- Return airfare to and from Mauritius
The South African Government provides additional support, including a one-way flight ticket to Mauritius, settlement allowance, pre-departure orientation, SAQA verification of qualification, and board exam fee upon graduation (where applicable).

Various fields of study are available at participating public tertiary education institutions in Mauritius for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
General Criteria:
- South African citizens in good health with a strong academic record
- Interest in studying in Mauritius and commitment to South Africa’s development
- Availability to study in Mauritius from September 2024
- Compliance with entry criteria for selected study program in Mauritius
- Proficiency in English
- Not in receipt of another scholarship from Mauritius
- Compliance with government regulations and health protocols
Undergraduate Scholarship Applicants:
- National Senior Certificate with a Bachelor’s pass
- Minimum 60% average mark, excluding Life Orientation
- Age between 18 and 26 by 01 January 2025
PhD and MPhil/MPhil-PhD Applicants:
- Specific educational and age criteria apply
- Submission of Abridged Research Proposal required
How To Apply
- Submit an application for admission to eligible institutions in Mauritius by 5 April 2024.
- Complete the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme application form and email it to [email protected] by 22 March 2024.
- Shortlisted applicants may complete an online questionnaire, followed by potential interviews between 01 – 05 April 2024.
- Nominated applicants will be informed of their final nomination and must submit a completed medical certificate by 15 April 2024.
