PanSALB Seeks South African Sign Language Interpreter. Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) is a statutory body established under Act 59 of 1995 (as amended) to facilitate the development and equal use of South African official languages.

We are inviting qualified candidates to apply for the position of South African Sign Language Interpreter.

PanSALB Seeks South African Sign Language Interpreter

The South African Sign Language Interpreter will provide SASL interpreting services within PanSALB and offer language-related support to PanSALB and NLBs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. SASL Interpreting Services: Provide SASL interpreting services within PanSALB, at NLB meetings, and upon request in the provinces.
  2. Database Management: Conduct basic research and maintain various databases related to SASL interpreting.
  3. Education Research: Research institutions of higher education, further training, NGOs, CBOs, etc., that offer SASL Interpreting courses and programs.
  4. State Organ Analysis: Research the availability and use of SASL Interpreters within state organs. Provide advice on language policy development, with a focus on SASL Interpreting.
  5. Language Development: Support the promotion of language development and use.
  6. Reporting: Prepare and submit oral and written reports defining plans, problems, and resolutions.
  7. Claims Processing: Process claims from NLB Division’s meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, and other activities.
  8. Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the Gauteng Provincial Office and perform ad hoc tasks when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or Matric certificate.
  • Diploma in Language Practice.
  • Minimum of 5 years of language-related experience.

Competencies

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Customer relationship management.
  • Communication.
  • Database development and maintenance.
  • Basic research skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of SASL interpreting, terminology development, language policy, lexicography, and cultural institutions.
