Registrar Position at the Office of the Chief Justice – Apply Now. The position is based at the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein.

Salary Range:

  • MR3: R293,847 – R333,666 per annum
  • MR4: R351,618 – R397,323 per annum
  • MR5: R420,642 – R1,005,801 per annum (Salary will be in accordance with the Occupation Specific Dispensation Determination)

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit service certificates to determine their experience. The successful candidate will also need to sign a performance agreement.

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) is the highest judicial office in South Africa, responsible for the administration of the judiciary. It oversees the functioning of all Superior courts, including the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and High Courts. The OCJ provides support to the Judiciary to ensure effective and efficient court administration services.

The Office of the Chief Justice is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Registrar (REF NO: 2023/350/OCJ). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the effective administration of the judiciary, ensuring the independence and impartiality of the courts.

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Matric Certificate and an LLB Degree or a four (4) year legal qualification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ legal experience obtained after qualification.
  • Driver’s license.

Specific requirements for different salary levels (MR3, MR4, MR5) are as follows:

  • MR3: LLB Degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in the legal profession.
  • MR4: LLB Degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience in the legal profession.
  • MR5: LLB Degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 14 years post-qualification experience in the legal profession.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Registrar’s responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating Case Flow Management support processes for the Judiciary
  • Managing the issuing of all processes
  • Initiating Court proceedings
  • Coordinating interpreting services, appeals, and reviews
  • Authenticating signatures of Legal Practitioners, Notaries, and Sworn Translators
  • Supervising and managing staff
  • Providing practical training and assistance to the Registrar’s Clerks
  • Ensuring annotation of relevant publications, codes, acts, and rules
  • Attending to and executing requests from the Judiciary regarding cases and case-related matters
  • Exercising control over the management and safekeeping of case records and the record room
  • Dealing with files in accordance with relevant codes and legislation
  • Executing Quasi-judicial indicators such as Taxation of the Bill of Costs and Warrants of Execution
  • Collating statistical data for reporting purposes and preparing court performance reports
