Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, situated in Ga-Rankuwa, Gauteng Province, South Africa, has been at the forefront of healthcare education.

Established on January 1, 2015, it was previously known as the Medical University of South Africa and later as a campus of the University of Limpopo. SMU is committed to shaping the future of medical and health sciences education and is actively seeking top talents to join its journey.

Job Details

  • Position: Interns (50 Positions)
  • Duration: 6-month programme
  • Closing Date: October 24, 2023
  • Commencement: November 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter
  • Monthly Stipend: R5000

Program Overview

The YES Internship Programme is part of the Presidential Youth Employment Stimulus (PYES) initiative, a government program coordinated by the Department of Higher Education and Training.

It aims to provide temporary employment opportunities for young graduates and equip them with valuable experience to enhance their employability. Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, in collaboration with Universities South Africa (USAf), manages this program to ensure well-coordinated implementation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates aged between 18 and 35.
  • Not currently enrolled in full-time classes, preferably available after regular working hours.
  • South African citizenship.

Internship Departments and Requirements

1. Human Resources Department (7 Positions)

  • Diploma or Degree in HR Management/HR Development/Labour Relations/Employee Relations.

2. Finance Department (2 Positions)

  • Post-School Diploma or Degree in Financial Management, Accounting, Commerce, or Supply Chain.
  • Diploma in Business Studies/Management Assistant/Office Administration.

3. Enrolment Section: Post Graduate Studies (1 Position)

  • Diploma in Business Studies/Management Assistant/Office Administration.

4. School of Medicine: Office of the Dean (2 Positions)

  • Diploma in Business Studies/Management Assistant/Office Administration.
  • Bachelor of Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology/Sociology), BSc (in any field of science).

(And so on for each department)

  • Have not participated in any learnership or internship program.
  • Be willing to sign a learnership/internship agreement with SMU.
  • Be available for a 6-month period.

  • Proof of registration with a Professional Body (if applicable).
