Sasol Mining has six coal mines in Southern Africa that supply feedstock to its integrated value chain. The coal supplied to Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) is mostly used as gasification feedstock and some of it is used to generate electricity. We also sell coal to international power generation customers via the Richards Bay Coal Terminal from the Twistdraai Export Plant.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

• Facilitate and conduct formal accident/incident investigations

• Compose reports for management after conducting line legal inspections of workplaces

• Help with risk assessments and facilitate them

• Provide monthly risk profiles and process them

• Keeping the safety co-ordinator updated on safety statistics, documents, and changes

• Drive a culture of conformance

• Make sure lead indicators are being used

• Facilitate and drive ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001

General

• Communicate trends to clients through structured forums based on information analysis

• Measurement of SHE-management compliance on a regular basis

• Make sure you’re using risk assessment techniques (JSA and SLAM)

• Develop safety reps

• Identify unsafe practices, behaviors, and conditions, then devise mitigating measures with the line

• Learn more about safety and health management

• Assist with incident investigations

• On standby week, there might be work on Sunday

 What you need to know

• Minimum experience and formal education

• You need a valid driver’s license and a car

• Literacy with computers

• You’ll be better off with experience in coal handling

• With a grade 12 certificate in math and science and a trade test

• Work experience of 9 years.

OR

• Engineering or Safety Management diploma

• Work experience of 5 years

OR

• Engineer or Safety Manager with a B. Tech

• 4 years of relevant work experience
