About the Department of Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development, established in June 2019, resulted from the merger of agriculture functions from the former Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.
Their vision encompasses equitable land access, integrated rural development, sustainable agriculture, and universal food security.

Department of Agriculture Bursary Programme 2024
The Department’s mission is to accelerate land reform, catalyze rural development, and enhance agricultural production, focusing on:
- Transformed land ownership patterns.
- Agrarian reform.
- Implementation of an effective land administration system.
- Sustainable livelihoods.
- Innovative sustainable agriculture.
- Promotion of opportunities for youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
- Integrated rural development.
Bursary Awards for 2024
DALRRD is committed to offering comprehensive bursaries to eligible individuals pursuing studies in agriculture, land reform, and rural development for the 2024 academic year. These bursaries cover tuition, accommodation, books, meals, and a monthly allowance. Preference is given to those from impoverished, rural communities who have faced disadvantages.

Application Instructions
To apply for the bursary:
- Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Complete the relevant bursary application forms, available from the links provided at the end of this document.
- Note that only fields of study listed will be considered.
Communication regarding bursary awards will be limited to successful applicants. If you haven’t received communication within 14 days of the release of Grade 12 results and the finalization of the selection process by the National Bursary Committee, consider your application unsuccessful. The Department reserves the right to determine the number of bursary allocations based on the available budget.
Late applications will not be considered. If you don’t yet have your university acceptance letter or final results, you can still submit your application.
