The application deadline is 19 November 2023. This scholarship is open to students from any South African university intending to pursue further studies at Rhodes University in 2024.
2024 Makabongwe Ndzwayiba Scholarship Programme at Rhodes University
Established in 2012 by the Vice-Chancellor in memory of the late Makabongwe Ndzwayiba, this scholarship honors his memory after his courageous battle against cancer.

Makabongwe, an outstanding student and community leader, spent three successful years at Rhodes University. The scholarship aims to support students who have overcome significant hardships, reflecting Makabongwe’s spirit.
BURSARY ELIGIBILITY
The scholarship is awarded to a Rhodes University student pursuing Honours in Economics, demonstrating financial need, overcoming hardships, and showing leadership in community upliftment.
- Field/Level of Study: Honours in Economics at Rhodes University.
- Eligibility: Acceptance for Honours in Economics, proven financial need, demonstrable hardships overcome, and leadership in community upliftment.
- Citizenship: Open to all citizens.
BURSARY VALUE AND BENEFITS
The scholarship offers a variable amount, up to a maximum of R30,000 per annum.
